Hugo’s monumental epic unravels the threads of societal decay with a poignance that lingers long after the final page. The narrative's intricate tapestry, interwoven with themes of justice and redemption, evokes an emotional tumult that is both rare and resonant. The characterizations are nothing short of masterful, with Jean Valjean's journey serving as a profound meditation on the transformative power of mercy.
