A photographer named Andrew Kaleen incidentally gets wrapped up in a series of murders delivered through clues in the form of 35mm film.
Obscura is a refreshing take on the neo-noir genre, blending a gripping narrative with an aesthetic that feels like a digital oil painting. The visual storytelling here is exceptional, using shadow and light to enhance the mystery. The performances, especially from Lingnau and Hartig, lend a grounded authenticity to the film's more speculative elements. I appreciate how the film incorporates elements of solarpunk aesthetics in its set designs, offering a hopeful, albeit subdued, vision of the future. It’s a visually compelling piece that adds a fresh perspective to my collection.
