The story of a precocious six year-old and her ragtag group of friends whose summer break is filled with childhood wonder, possibility and a sense of adventure while the adults around them struggle with hard times.
This one's a real tear-jerker, reckon it's a bit different from my usual picks but it stuck with me. It's got a raw, honest feel that grabs you from the start. Willem Dafoe's performance is mighty fine, and that little girl's got a spark that shines through the rough edges of life. It's not the high-octane stuff I usually go for, but it's got depth and a touch of Southern charm that I appreciate. It ain't flashy, but it sure does hit close to home.
This film was a refreshing departure from my usual A24 indies. It's got this gritty, almost documentary-like feel that's both confronting and mesmerising. Willem Dafoe's performance was a standout for me, injecting a sense of offbeat magic into the rough edges of the story. The cinematography really captured the essence of summer in Orlando, that hazy, heat-soaked vibe that's both beautiful and suffocating. A film that lingers in your mind long after the credits roll.
This film captures the essence of Miami's working-class neighborhoods, much like a chef's journey through the city's diverse culinary landscape. The director's eye for detail and the raw performances bring to life the vibrant, yet often overlooked, spirit of the community. It's a slice of life that resonates with the flavors and stories I cherish.
